As a Special Education Math Teacher at George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, VA, from August 2017 to June 2018, I had the pleasure of providing individualized learning experiences to an extraordinary group of students. In the classroom, I utilized 1:1 devices, a resource I was awarded through my diligent application and advocacy. This significantly enhanced my students’ engagement and accelerated their learning process.
I dedicated myself to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every student felt valued and capable. I adjusted my teaching methods based on each student’s unique learning style and needs, ensuring everyone had equal opportunities to succeed. My commitment to fostering academic growth among my students led to my recognition as the Best New Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Fairfax County Public School system in the 2017 – 2018 academic year.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I was an active member of the Database club. Here, I applied my proficiency with Microsoft Access to produce insightful reports, contributing to the broader academic community. My role went beyond the confines of my classroom as I collaborated with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to promote the overall well-being of my students.
My tenure at George C. Marshall High School was a period of professional growth and personal satisfaction. Witnessing my students overcome challenges and achieve their goals was profoundly rewarding. This experience strengthened my resolve to continue advocating for students with special needs and shaped me into a more compassionate, patient, and effective educator.
